Shalimar Pointe is 15 min. from Ft. Walton Beach, 30 min. from Destin, 50 min. from Pensacola and 50 min. from Panama City. Built in 1968, Shalimar Pointe was designed by Pete Dye & Joe Finger, and is the only Pete Dye designed course in the area. Shalimar Pointe stretches 6,765 yards from the tips, but has 5 sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels. This semi-private country club offers a championship layout, but doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg like some neighboring high-end resorts do. The par 3 # 11 is considered the signature hole of the course, but only measures 146 yards. The green is nearly surrounded by water, as well as sand bunkers that come into play. Richard Morgan, the Head Golf Professional, suggests that you check the wind direction before you tee it up on this one. There is also a two tier green and the only bail out area is on the right side of the green. Shalimar Pointe offers golfers a chance to experience a country club atmosphere and the quality of a Pete Dye designed layout. The course also offers a driving range, chipping area and putting green to warm you up before your round. The pro shop offers a full line of golf merchandise; including shirts, hats, shoes, gloves, balls, and bags. They will also beat or match anyone’s prices! Outings are also offered at Shalimar Pointe, but make sure you book them ASAP so you get the date you want. The next time you are in the panhandle of Florida and looking for a great golf experience that is easy on your wallet, head on out to Shalimar Pointe Country Club. |
